The Best Walking Shoes (That Are Not Sneakers) – Top 4 Picks

April 24, 2018 by JoJo

best walking shoes that aren't sneakers

Need a great pair of walking shoes, but aren’t looking for sneakers? I hear ya! I love my sneakers, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes, I want to look a bit more dressed up and frankly, most sneaker options are not going to give me that look.

Finding a comfortable, but trendy walking shoe can be so hard these days, especially when you don’t know where to start. Have no fears though, I have compiled a list of the 4 best walking shoes (that are not sneakers) for women below.

They each have their own unique design, but all share the most important trait in common, comfort. In fact, each of the 4 brands listed below are not only notable companies in the footwear community but are recognized for their emphasis on comfort and well-being.

So here you have it- my top 4 best walking shoes that aren’t sneakers, for women.

What Are The Best Walking Shoes That Are Not Sneakers

Here is a quick preview of my top 4, continue reading for more information about each pair.

  • ECCO Footwear Womens Damara Ankle Gladiator Sandal
  • Skechers Performance Women’s Go Step Challenge Walking Shoe
  • Clarks funny Dream Oxford
  • Hush Puppies Women’s Chaste Ballet Flat

ECCO Footwear Womens Damara Ankle Gladiator Sandal

We already know that we don’t want the typical walking shoe (a.k.a. the sneaker), but that doesn’t mean we have to stay in the closed-toe realm either. ECCO has some awesome walking shoe options, both closed and open-toed, but one of their opened-toed options is my personal recommendation, the Damara Ankle Gladiator Sandal.

This might not be the shoe for everyone, depending on why you plan to pull these babies out of the closet- for travel (awesome choice), school (great option), work (if open-toed is ok, go for it!!) or a casual walk around town (excellent pick) – but if the weather cooperates and open-toe is an option, you really can’t go wrong with these walking sandals.

Made from leather and textile, they feature a small, but suitable heel, polyurethane outsole (very flexible and lightweight!) and microfibre footbed, giving plenty support to your feet. And can I mention the best part? They look terrific on women of all ages!

Skechers Performance Women’s Go Step Challenge Walking Shoe

Let’s face it- we all need a pair of Sketchers in our life and these Skechers Performance Go step Challenge Walking Shoes are just the pair! Shaped like the typical ballet flat, these walking shoes are a step ahead in comfort from most. They have a slightly higher heel than the usual ballet flat, which in this case gives you even more support.

They also feature Skechers Goga mat sole, a beautiful fabric upper and come in a variety of colors and styles. Lengthy days on your feet can be the worst, but in these shoes, the time will go by fast, since you’ll be able to focus on your goal for the day, whatever that may be, and not on your feet.

They also are a nice choice for ladies that prefer a sockless look, though they can be worn either way. Talk about a fantastic walking shoe!

Clarks funny Dream Oxford

These Funny Dream Oxford shoes maybe not literally be funny, but they certainly are a dream, especially for the chic women looking to stay comfy, and classy all day long. They are made by Clarks, the acclaimed footwear brand, widely known for their collection of high-end, feel-good shoes.

Yes, they have laces, but these do not give off any sneaker vibes, just over-the-top “vintagey” ones (don’t know what I mean, check out the Urban Dictionary definition here), thus they are appropriately part of Clarks artisan collection.

Made from leather, a rubber sole and consisting of an Ortholite footbed, these trendy wedges are one of my personal favorites!

Dansko Professional Clog

Dansko, Dansko, Dansko- everyone loves Dansko! And it’s no wonder why, they are praised as being one of the best options for professionals that are on their feet all day (think Nurses, for example). Whether you are a nurse or not though, the Dansko professional clog is a perfect option for that long day on your soles, all the while providing you great protection and comfort.

One reason is that these shoes feature parts that are still built by hand, so you know time and excellence has gone into it. They were even awarded by the APMA their seal of acceptance, or in other words, an official acknowledgment meeting their standards of quality, comfort and safety. How’s that for a walking shoe?!

Oh and one more thing- they come in a bunch of super cool designs making it hard to know which to choose. Go classic, or funky and fun, either way, the comfy and warm feeling these shoes provide will not change.

Hush Puppies Women’s Chaste Ballet Flat

Hush Puppies has been a well-known footwear brand for years, and it only has gotten better with an even greater selection of cute and of course, very comfortable shoes. Hence, it is only appropriate to include on my list of the best walking shoes that are not sneakers.

The Chaste Ballet Flat is the right choice for any lady looking for a great walking shoe that can be paired with jeans or even a cute dress for an on the job look. The amount of color and design choices are impressive and nicely show off the leather, suede or metallic suede upper, depending on which style you choose.

They also feature a suede lining, so not only will the soles of your feet stay comfy, but the sides will too. But, the HP02flex design with cushion footbed is why these shoes make the list. They are extremely comfortable, flexible and lightweight, making them one of best walking shoes out there.

Oh and don’t forget the rubber soles which provide great traction and grit. So whether you’re walking down cobblestone streets or concrete floors, these will keep you on your feet and ready for your next adventure!
